David grew up in Columbus, Ohio and was very active in sports, the local community and school activities. He received his BS, with merit, from the United States Naval Academy and, following his Navy service, his MBA from Harvard Business School.
David spent six years as an officer in the U.S. Navy, first as Anti-Submarine Warfare Officer on board USS Harry W. Hill (DD-986) and then as a member of the Chief of Naval Operation’s staff in Washington, DC. While assigned to the Pentagon, David was also a member of a select team of military officers that assisted President and Mrs. Reagan in hosting ceremonial functions at the White House.
Following graduate school, David consulted to the venture capital firm J.H. Whitney & Co., serving as interim CFO for two portfolio companies. He then worked with several high net worth investors on a series of merchant banking and investment banking opportunities. In 1999, David joined Goldman, Sachs & Co. in New York and moved to Seattle, WA to open an office and build the firm’s presence in the rapidly growing northwest region. In early 2002, David acquired Leigh Stowell & Co, a 28 year old market research and consulting company that provides research-based tools and consulting for DMA based (local) media properties and advertisers. David’s team is building research-based information tools to help managers more effectively plan for and operate their businesses. David also advises and invests in other growing companies in the region.
